distraction sandwich

this is post card im sending out today. sometimes i feel guilty about working on things like this as if i'm using up all my fuel and soon i won't have enough to get all my other important jobs done.
that's just a little backwards thinking. Work that is self inspired reminds me how i want to approach jobs.

Try Outs

I'm trying out for job that would be huge for me and i'm trying to keep my cool. If it doesn't work out than it's not a big deal. If it does work out on the other hand it would be pretty huge. The question is: am i able to match the whimsical and nonsensical writing or am i too stuck in my style and ideals when it comes to children's illustration.
i always think of what Maurice Sendak said:

"the qualities that make for excellence in Children's literature can be sweepingly summed up in a single word:
imagination.
Contrary to most of the propaganda in books for the young, childhood is only partly a time of innocence. It is, in my opinion, a time of seriousness, bewilderment, and a good deal of suffering...It is through fantasy that children achieve catharsis."

yup. what he said.

Is this Creepy?

It wasnt supposed to be creepy. This was a first idea for an illustration to accompany an article about water and pollution. It was decided against because it looks gory. I suppose. But its still the most successful thing I've done in Photoshop.
this is what i ended up passing in. Safer i guess.

New Times

I've decided to reinvent my blog. It was serving as a lesser online portfolio and i have a web site for that. If you are interested visit sydneydraws.com. This blog shall now be the realm of sketches and ideas. They are sometimes more pure and inspired than the over worked end results. And sometimes they are just the first step. They are important.
